STUDIO, SINGLE or DOUBLE? How to choose a student room in Brno

5 min read

Are you looking for a student room in Brno and not sure whether to choose a STUDIO, SINGLE or DOUBLE? You’re not alone. Choosing the type of room is, alongside location, one of the most important decisions you’ll make before moving in. It will affect not only your budget, but above all how you’ll live, study and relax throughout the academic year.

At ABC Student & Home, you’ll find all three room types across four halls of residence in Brno: in Žabovřesky (Plevova 7 and Plevova 9) and in Královo Pole (Tyršova 70 and Střední 15). In this guide, we’ll show you how the different types differ, what’s included in each, and who each is best suited for.

Quick comparison: STUDIO, SINGLE and DOUBLE

Before we get into the details, take a look at this handy comparison of all three room types.

Room type Who it’s for Kitchen Bathroom
STUDIO A couple looking for complete privacy Private, fully equipped private bathroom with toilet
SINGLE students who want their own room shared, including a dishwasher shared, with separate toilet
DOUBLE friends and couples who want to live together shared, including a dishwasher shared, with separate toilet

In all cases, the units are newly and modernly furnished and fully equipped, including kitchenware and bedding. High-speed Wi-Fi and utility bills (electricity, water and heating) are included in the rent.

STUDIO: a self-contained 1+kk flat for a couple

STUDIO is a self-contained 1+kk unit with two separate beds and two sets of furniture. It includes its own fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a toilet. You therefore do not share the facilities with anyone else, only with your flatmate.

Who is the STUDIO best suited for?

  • A pair who want to live on their own. Whether you’re a couple, siblings or two friends, you’ll have your own little home without any other flatmates.
  • Students who enjoy cooking. Having your own kitchen means you don’t have to take turns at the hob with anyone else.
  • Those who want to be in complete control of their daily routine. Morning routines and evening study sessions can all be done at your own pace.

SINGLE: extra privacy in a shared flat

SINGLE is a private room in a two- or three-bedroom shared flat. You have the room all to yourself, so you get extra privacy for sleeping, studying and video calls. At the same time, you’re not completely on your own: you share the kitchen and other communal areas with your flatmates.

The flat includes a fully equipped shared kitchen with a dishwasher, a bathroom with a separate toilet, a shared balcony and a walk-in wardrobe. Specific facilities vary by residence, but you can view everything in advance via the virtual tours on the website.

SINGLE is ideal for introverts and anyone who needs peace and quiet for their demanding studies. Having your own room means you can close the door behind you whenever you like, whilst the shared kitchen is a natural place to get to know your flatmates.

DOUBLE: living with a friend in a shared flat

DOUBLE is a room with two separate beds in a shared flat. The facilities are the same as for the SINGLE option: a fully equipped shared kitchen with a dishwasher, a bathroom with a separate toilet, a shared balcony and a cloakroom (facilities vary depending on the residence).

You can find the current prices for all room types in the price list on our website. DOUBLE is particularly suitable for:

  • friends from secondary school who are heading to Brno together,
  • classmates who met during their entrance exams,
  • students who don’t want to live alone and would appreciate a flatmate for everyday student life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we choose who we’ll be sharing a DOUBLE room or STUDIO with?

Yes. A pair or group of friends submits a single joint application, so you can specify straight away who you’d like to share with. Simply fill in your first name and surname, telephone number, chosen residence, room type and the length of your stay (10 or 12 months).

What’s included in the rent?

The rent includes high-speed Wi-Fi and utility bills, i.e. electricity, water and heating. All units are fully equipped, including kitchenware and bedding, so you only need to bring your personal belongings.

Is the booking binding?

No. The booking form serves as a non-binding expression of interest and does not guarantee a place; it is therefore not a confirmed booking. We will get back to you within 3 working days at the latest to discuss the next steps.

Have you made your choice? Take a look at the different room types, virtual tours and the current price list on the Rooms and Price List page, and send us a non-binding enquiry. We’ll be happy to help you find a student room in Brno where you’ll feel right at home.
